Our Lady of Fatima and the three children
Lately, I have been intrigued by new developments in the realm of science. Electron microscopes, high-powered telescopes and other technologies are arriving at startling conclusions. Over the last century, it was thought that science would show that God did not exist. Now three discoveries have led to a different conclusion.
The book, God: The Science The Evidence is now an international bestseller. More than 450,000 have sold world-wide. Three main discoveries bolster the evidence for intelligent design.
The universe had a beginning
The universe is improbably fine-tuned
Life cannot explain its origins.
Now you may ask, what does this have to do with today’s feast day in which we honor Our Lady of Fatima.
I was surprised to see that the bestseller mentioned above has a chapter on the Miracle of the Sun. It asks the question “Fatima: Illusion, Deception, or Miracle?”
As you may know, Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta were three children who claimed to see six visions of Our Lady from May 13 to October 13, 1917. In one vision she promised that a miracle would appear in Fatima on October 13th. Thousands gathered in the pouring rain. According to one French writer the sun “begins to turn like a wheel of fire, shooting sprays of light in all directions” and then the sun appeared to fall to earth, terrorizing the crowd. The writers of God: The Science The Evidence rule out collective hallucinations, scams and tricks.
